It Matters To Natter
Silver Talk is a free telephone befriending service operating throughout County Durham that enables older people to connect for regular social telephone conversations. The people who make the telephone calls are all friendly, fully trained volunteers who are able to chat about anything.
As well as providing regular social contact, Silver Talk offers helpful links to other organisations who can help with a variety of issues that will help older people to live independently in their own homes with confidence.

What our Silver Friends have to say about Silver Talk
“It gives me something to look forward to. I have a family but they are busy with work and their own lives so it’s nice to have someone who only cares about you for the time on the phone”Winnie, 79
“It provides company and friendship I’d miss out on otherwise, I feel like part of something again!”Thomas, 67
BECOME A VOLUNTEER
Becoming a Silver Talk volunteer can be a fun and rewarding experience. All of our volunteers complete our 8 hour training programme before making their first calls so they are happy and confident to start making calls to our Silver Friends. We host regular coffee mornings for our volunteers too so they can catch up with each other and share experiences and make the most of the social aspect of volunteering.
